GENERAL INFORMATIONS

The 8th European Conference on Turbomachinery Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics (ETC 8) is being organised in March 2009 in Graz (A), beginning on Monday, March 23 and concluding on Friday, March 27. The 5-days technical program is supplemented with a series of social events over the week fostering international friendship, discussions and collaborative ventures.

The conference city is Graz, Austria, located in the middle of Europe.

CONFERENCE VENUE

The conference will be held in The Auditorium
(Aula) of the University of Graz. The Auditorium
is located inside the main building of the Karl-Franzens-University Graz and was constructed by the Viennese architect Karl Stattler. The banqueting hall is the University's largest hall and offers room for up to 600 people. It is a place for gatherings, but also provides the setting for graduation celebrations and other academic award ceremonies, concerts and numerous other events.

On the one hand, the 25 metre long, almost 14 metre wide and 12 meter high Auditorium conveys the air of late historical forms of expression, on the other hand, the elegant gold and white tones of the walls already anticipate a new era overcoming the Fin de siécle.

TRAVEL TO GRAZ

By plane :

It is the most convenient way. A lot of airlines provide a connection to “ Graz – Thalerhof Airport”.

By taxi:

The taxi rank is right outside the passenger terminal, right next to the arrival area, for maximum convenience. The drive should take around 20 min. and the fare should cost approximately 20 EURO up to Graz city centre.

By public busses:

Public busses bring you conveniently from Graz Airport to Graz main station / JAKOMINIPLATZ. The bus stop is right outside the passenger terminal, right next to the arrival area. The price for a one-way trip is: 1.80 EURO

Hotel Accommodation:

Please make your hotel reservation using the Hotel Booking section of this site, or the hotel registration form at the end of the preliminary program. The deadline for reservation is February 15, 2009. After this date you will have to contact the local Organizing Secretariat (Ms. S. Ninaus), in order to arrange a booking, or organize yourself your stay in Graz. The local Organizing Secretariat is proposing the following hotels given below, most of which are connected to the Conference Venue via the public transport system. The hotel prices are indicated in the registration and hotel booking section of this site. More details concerning the hotels are providedin the section giving additional hotel information.

The Romantik Park Hotel**** is situated in the historical city center of Graz, with the renowned University of Musical Studies just opposite and "Stadtpark" - the green heart of the city - around the corner. Close by are the other two Universities of Graz, the Opera House, the "Schauspielhaus", the city's main theatre and the beautiful cathedral.

A hotel for guests who appreciate comfort, the new 4 star Mercure Graz City has 96 rooms and is located in the centre of Graz, only a few minutes walk from the sights of the city, including the Schlossberg and the old town centre (600m).

PLEASE NOTE: Because of the DIAGONALE (Film Festival) in Graz are bookings for the Hotel Mariahilf only until February 15, 2009 possible. After this date a fixed booking cannot be granted.

The hotel Mariahilf is a comfortable middle-class hotel which has 45 rooms, 95 beds and stays in a pedestrian street in the heart of the old town of Graz. It is in close proximity to the Congress center and the main square.

Please note that your registration can only be accepted if you have paid by one of the methods indicated in the registration form.

Participants may pick up the Conference material at the registration desk.
Pre-registration will be accepted until February 15, 2009.

On-site registration

A Registration Form to be used for On-Site Registration will be available at the registration desk.

Registration Fees

The Registration fees are indicated on the registration form, of the Registration and Hotel Booking section of this site. All registration fees include a copy of the Conference Proceedings (book and CD), coffee breaks, the access to the conference sessions and the Monday’s Welcome Reception Cocktail. The fee does not include the Conference Gala dinner on Wednesday evening; reservations for this event will be made at the on-site registration desk. The Day visitor fee allows attending the Conference sessions on the selected day. The accompanying person fee includes the access to Monday's Welcome Reception buffet (see registration form).

Conference Registration and Information Desk

The registration desk will be opened from 8:00 AM until the early afternoon, from Monday, March 23 till Friday, March 27at the conference venue.

Cancellations

Delegates who cancel their registration before January 28, 2007 will have their fees refunded minus an administration charge of 25 euros. No refund will be made after this date. Replacement delegates will be accepted.

Conference Proceedings

The Conference Proceedings will be available on-site for attendees, as well as the additional copies, which have been ordered until February 15th, 2009 (see the registration form).

Purchase of Additional Copies of the Proceedings

Additional copies of the Proceedings, which may not be available on-site, may be ordered on site and sent by mail; the mailing charge is 10 Euros.

Payment

All payments on-site are required in Euros. Major Credit Cards (Visa, Master Card, Diners Club) are accepted. Please note that we have only got an Imprinter at the Registration Desk. Credit cards only with "electonic use" can not be accepted.

THE CONFERENCE

Preliminary Conference Technical Program

The preliminary technical program of the conference can be found in the appropriate section of this site and at the conference.

Exhibition

Some space (booths) is available near the session rooms where leading companies and research agencies will report on their products and activities. Brochures and other material from Journal Publishers will be available at the Registration Desk as well.

Speaker's Briefing

The authors who are presenting their paper and the session chairs will meet for a short briefing fifteen minutes before the starting of their session in the session room. Please, attend on the day of your session only.

Timing of Presentation

Each paper will be allocated 30 minutes (including introduction and question-and-answer period) except where noted otherwise. Concurrent sessions will maintain uniform starting times.

Audio-visual equipment

Each session room will be pre-set with the following equipment: an overhead projector, a computer projection system, a screen, a microphone and a PC. Additional audio-visual equipment must be requested till Friday, February 20.

Messages and Information

Messages will be recorded and posted on a bulletin board in the registration area. A telephone number for message recording will be indicated within the Conference Web Page as soon as it will be available.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not allowed in the conference venue.

Restrictions

Video-taping or audio-recording of any session during this conference is prohibited. The sale of any publication not authorised by ETC 8 is also prohibited.

Social Events

Welcome Reception Cocktail

Attendees and guests are invited to start the ETC8 Conference on Monday evening with a welcome reception hosted by the governor of Styria which will give you a chance to renew acquaintances and to meet new friends. The reception will be held from 7.30 pm at the Old University which lies in the heart of Graz.

Conference Gala Dinner

Wednesday night will offer you the opportunity to enjoy the Conference Gala Dinner hosted in "The Schlossberg Restaurant". It's on a tree-clad mountain right in the centre of Graz.

Technical Tours

We offer you the possibility to take part in one of the following technical tours:

  • Visit of the laboratory of the Institute for Thermal Turbomachinery and Machine Dynamics at Graz University of Technology with its test stands, including a transonic test turbine and a test rig for engine aeroacoustics.
  • Visit of the laboratory and test rigs for hydraulic turbines and pumps at Andritz AG in the outskirt of Graz. ANDRITZ HYDRO is today the legal successor of the former companies VOEST-ALPINE, VA TECH VOEST MCE, SULZER ESCHER WYSS and HYDRO VEVEY and has thus a long tradition in testing and manufacture of hydraulic turbomachines.

Both technical tours will take place after the conference on Friday afternoon. Details will appear on this website as soon as possible or will be provided at the Conference.
